He is a Jewish French-Canadian, who also speaks Spanish.  According to rumor he also plays basketball very well, even though he’s short.  I never had any contact with Jacob until I began dating Manchester, who was Jacob’s office neighbor.  Manchester was paranoid that Jacob had some kind of weird obsession with him.  I totally wrote Manchester off, until suddenly Jacob made himself a fixture in my life.  My boyfriend is no longer at the office and Jacob always asks about him and is always friendly with me.  I don’t think Jacob knows that Manchester told me all his adulterous secrets.

We had to pretend to be married for a sociology project in high school.  He wanted our pretend kids to go to church all the time so they would be saved, yadda, yadda, yadda.  I told him that I wanted our pretend children to learn to speak Spanish so that they could be more marketable in their future pretend careers.  His response was that he wouldn’t stop me, but he wasn’t going to help me because he didn’t think that learning a second language was important.  I realized I was married to a caveman.  I bet he’s shooting himself now.

She was the mother of a client accused of burglary of his girlfriend’s apartment.  His mother constantly told me, “The young lady wants to drop the charges”.  I kept telling Dawn that if that was in fact the case, then the girl needed to contact the State Attorney’s Office.  Well, the girl never did contact them.  She came to trial and testified strongly against my client.  In the middle of the trial Dawn hands the bailiff a note saying the girl wishes to recant.  Then Dawn was accused of possible witness tampering.  Dawn effectively ended my friendship with that prosecutor.

She was the bad daughter of my parents’ friends.  We went to the same high school where she used to smoke cigarettes in the bathroom.  Still, I admired her.  She was skinny and broke the school dress code by wearing midriff shirts.  She always wore her blonde hair in a stylish bob, but she was the antithesis of Barbie.  She wore baggy jeans and liked skateboarding.  I was shocked to learn that her career is doing ultrasounds on pregnant women.  I always expected her to be an artist or musician or someone much cooler and more relevant to pop culture.

He was my client for whom I tried my first case before a jury.  He told me I was like Julia Stiles in that dancing movie.  I was a naive white girl who was becoming tougher.  He started a question, then stopped awkwardly.  I told him that I didn’t want any surprises at trial.  Then he got the nerve to ask me on a date as he sat in jail.  I reminded him he was only 17, but said I’d meet him for lunch when he gets out.  We won our trial, but he’s doing 8 years on another case.
